Greetings Mom. I’m happy to write another blog for you to enjoy. Who am I kidding? You probably stopped reading long ago. I will continue as though this were a journal entry that I secretly wish someone would find and read. Let’s continue…
This past weekend, I attended a trade show specific to Paintless Dent Removal, which we all know is for the super-talented and ultra exclusive. So exclusive in fact, this public blog is never even read. I know what your thinking. How can a trade show pertaining to ding removal, auto detailing and paint touch-ups be interesting. Because we, the ultra exclusive, are into it. That’s why. So, without further ado… I’ll give you a glimpse from an insider’s view. Perhaps your wildest dreams will allow you to enjoy this Royal affair I attended while being completely awake.
The Mobile Tech Expo was held at the Worldgate Resort in Orlando, Florida. I overheard some complaints, but I have none. Nice enough staff and the rooms were fine. Not the best hotel, but certainly not the worst…especially for the money.
Day 1.
My friend and I arrived in Orlando on Thursday evening. The whole bar area was jammin. Despite the site of this ultimate PDR fun, I couldn’t attend. You see, I had yet to attain hearing in either ear from the flight down. I was in the third, and most intense, day of a cold that was notorious for its ” hearing – loss – on- a- plane” capabilities. I checked into room 763. It is worth noting the room number because it is the second furthest room from the front desk. When you’re suffering from a cold that is capable of inflicting the loss of 3 senses (smell, taste and the aforementioned hearing), it felt like a trek to the pinnacle of Everest. After the ascend, I hit the bed with my arm over my eyes. I was never to see Thursday, Jan 19th again. The time was 7:45PM.
Day 2.
The morning arrived at 6:40AM. I tried to go back to sleep. When I couldn’t, I decided to get this wonderful day of PDR bliss underway. I registered for the show an hour early and sat around watching a large group of PDR technicians move about. It was really great. Despite my enduring wit, when I talk dents in North Jersey with my friends, they fail to find interest. At this place, we can talk about door dings all day and night. And we did. I moved counter clockwise around the room enjoying the exhibits. I was enjoying a giddy feeling reserved for my 4 year old on Christmas as I took in the sight of prototypes and commerce. I saw tools in person I’d only seen on websites. Moreover, I saw names on name-tags that I’d only heard of in paintless dent repair legend and folklore. I was truly moved by the experience and could of left then fulfilled by the experience of the show. Yet, the show and trip kept giving. The tool company’s I love were there. Dentcraft and their shop manager, who sat down and talked with me for an hour about his excitement for their future line, showed off the most consistent tools in the biz (IMO). Druztools was represented by their tool maker and creator himself, Drew Lechtenberg. His tools possess a tough, chopper-like design, that leads the all others in their contribution to the ultimate in style esthetics for the industry. I saw a guy named Myke Toledo from DentTime in San Diego. Unlike anyone in PDR, Myke dedicates a vast amount of production talent and unpaid time to the exposure of our consumer’s money-saving industry. A look at his videos will give you a true glimpse at quality PDR and the professionalism good people in the industry strive for. These company’s represent the good of an industry that has a lot of bad. As a proud PDR tech, it was truly an honor to know I was a part of a group in our industry who cares about preserving the values of this remarkable craft. Day 2 was a raging personal success.
Day 3
The Wrap-Up. I went home. The flight was terrifying. There was snow on the ground. But… I was totally pumped to get back to work and push some dents.
BTW. Three companies, I know of, were represented at the show from our local area. You would not go wrong with choosing any of these company’s for your dent work. They possess quality skills and integrity; However, you’ll never hear their names from me.
